Celebrated architect, Roger Mainwood, well-known for his transformative designs in Port Douglas, such as the Clink Theatre, multi award winning Peninsular Boutique Resort and Portico Shopping Village is set to introduce a touch of modern elegance to Macrossan Street through an impressive new project known as No.49.

In a joint effort to provide further activation to this already vibrant shopping street, architect Roger Mainwood from TPG Architects collaborates with Raine & Horne Port Douglas to unveil a seven-apartment complex, inclusive of three commercial shops.

Mr Mainwood enthusiastically expressed his vision for the modern architectural development.

“Our primary goal is to create a design that seamlessly integrates with the scale of Macrossan Street, fostering a strong connection between the residents, commercial spaces and the street,” he explained.

“To achieve this, we’re incorporating a covered pergola awning along the length of the footpath, integrated with a laneway connection to the landscaped central courtyard, allowing the shops to be setback from the street with footpath dining or retail.”

Luxurious living

The architect highlighted that this development seamlessly combines modern architecture with luxurious living.

“The villas offer open-plan living, spacious rooms filled with natural light, and lofty ceilings in a garden-like setting,” he said.

“A standout feature of this project is that the majority of the apartments come with private swimming pools, including both rooftop penthouse villas. There is also a garden-view courtyard at the rear to host charming café dining and peaceful garden relaxation spaces.”

David Cotton, Director of Raine & Horne Port Douglas, added that the property boasts another remarkable feature.

“It is zoned Residential, a rarity in the main street where most buildings are limited to a maximum stay of 90 days,” he explained

“No.49 is tailored for owner-occupiers or those seeking a vacation home without the limitations of on-site management.

“Whether you're looking for a wise investment or your ideal home, this property meets your needs.”

Successful collaboration

The partnership between Raine & Horne Port Douglas and TPG Architects is no mere coincidence.

With three decades of experience in the region, architect Roger Mainwood and his team have been working closely with Raine & Horne Port Douglas for nearly the same length of time.

“Roger recently designed the developer’s house at Beachfront Mirage, which won the Australian Institute of Architects regional ‘House of the Year’ award,” Mr Cotton noted. “We were so impressed with his work that we invited him to assist with this project.”

The development is set to commence in April 2024 and should wrap up approximately two years later. For more info about the new development click here.
