Fresh house-baked bread, adorned with smoked meats and a variety of fresh antipasto ingredients - these are the legendary Deli Rolls that have been creating quite a buzz around town. If you haven't tried these delicious creations yet, it's high time to visit Port Douglas Deli & Smokehouse on Grant Street.

But this establishment is more than just a place for exceptional Deli Rolls. It's a testament to dedication and passion for great food.

At the heart of this culinary success story are Tim Pullen and his wife Alison, who have curated a haven where you can find a vast selection of imported cheeses, handcrafted locally smoked goods, and a variety of other unique items you won't find in regular stores.

For this committed couple, the local and sustainable production of high-quality, hand-made foods with local and sustainable ingredients has fueled them for 25 years.

Their journey began in 1998 with a sun-dried tomato business in New South Wales and expanded to smoked trout and cheeses. They once supplied 127 shops in Sydney, including Hilton Hotels.

In 2020 they made Port Douglas their home, continuing their culinary adventure and commitment to exceptional food and swiftly establishing themselves within the community.

Running a farm in Julatten, they started out selling homemade smoked meats, cheeses, and other delectable products at the Mossman and Port Douglas markets.

Over the past year, they've opened their retail shop on Grant Street and expanded their business to serve local resorts, as well as engage in wholesale activities across the Tablelands and Cairns.

Local produce

The couple's commitment to quality is seen in their natural smoking process, applying both hot and cold smoking methods to all their products.

Additionally, the menu includes locally sourced reef fish, dips, French and Australian cheeses, smoked salmon, and house-made salamis - all of which have gained immense popularity among patrons.

These selections are the culmination of years of dedicated exploration and product development.

The couple prioritises supporting local producers, offering regional jams and honey, as well as patisserie items from Hummingbirds in Cairns and Port Douglas.

Their deli is renowned for its high standards, boasting selections from notable sources like Simon Johnson and a range of products from well-known Sydney-based restaurant Tatsuya.

To accommodate the afternoon closure of many businesses, they've introduced a coffee service led by skilled barista Julia, ensuring customers can enjoy a great coffee alongside their outstanding deli offerings, eliminating the need to seek coffee elsewhere.

The Famous Deli Roles

Soon the famous Deli Rolls will be available for delivery, a service tailored to busy business owners who can't leave for lunch.

“We're here to ensure you can savour a delicious lunch when hunger strikes,” Mr Pullen shared.

“Many business owners have limited time for lunch, so we aim to provide a quick and convenient solution.

“We've set up a dedicated phone number for orders via text. If you're too busy to visit, just send your order, and our staff will deliver it. We're here to make lunchtime more convenient for you.”

In addition to Deli Roll delivery, the Deli is renowned for their sunset platters, crafted by Alana, the Grazing Platter Artist. The platters feature French Brie, two carefully selected cheeses, house-smoked meats, and freshly baked bread.

“Our catering services accommodate a wide range of events and private parties, with a goal of delivering exceptional culinary experiences, offering the finest foods at budget-friendly prices,” Mr Pullen said.

“Whether they are locals or tourists seeking delectable platters for their weekend gatherings, we are here to provide exactly what they need. It's all about the care and quality we put into what we do.”
