Concluding the 125th-anniversary celebrations at Mossman State School, the school and the community came together this Wednesday to witness the burial of a time capsule.
Having been buried in 1998, the time capsule remained concealed until its unveiling on June 24 of this current year.

The new time capsule contains items from the 15th and 100th celebrations, like photos, keepsakes, student contributions, letters to future selves, and news articles.
Sonja Craven, coordinator of the centenary, also added her own letter to the capsule, intended for those who will open it in 2048.
In this letter, she recollected being asked to pen down her thoughts during her days in Primary School, in preparation for their 75th-anniversary celebrations.
“We talked about what we wanted to be when we grew up and what we thought life would be like in 25 years time,” she wrote in the letter.
Our imaginations ran wild with dreams of flying cars like the Jetsons and other innovations. Interestingly, many remained dreams. At the Centenary, I found myself embodying roles I hadn't mentioned – a teacher and a mom.
“Now 39, I have two sons, 6 and 8, who also dream of an advanced, robotic, and exciting future 25 years from now.
“As you read this in 2048 (when I'm 64), I wonder: Where am I? Have we cured diseases? Achieved world peace? Is Pluto still a planet? Have phones reached 9 or 10G? Have UFOs become ordinary? Have we explored beyond Earth?
“Between our 125th and 150th Birthdays, I trust those celebrating our 150th will honour Mossman's rich history – academically and culturally.”
Book Week madness
Mossman State School turned into a book lover's paradise during their annual Book Fair for Book Week.
The shelves were stacked high with literary treasures as the school's Book Fair took centre stage. There was a book for every reader's taste and with a book-swap station no one left empty-handed.

Every class brought their A-game, crafting sensational class hats as part of the “Hats off to reading”. During the individual hat competition students rocked their own crazy hat designs that would make even the Mad Hatter jealous.
The pinnacle was the Book Week Dress-up Day, where characters leaped from pages to life. Wizards, warriors, princesses, and pirates paraded through the school, turning it into a living library.
The school sold $4800 worth, and with a 35% commission, $1600 is earmarked for new library books.
Wonga Beach State School also embraced Book Week, and the costumes were truly out of this world. From the tiniest KindyLinQ members to dedicated staff, everyone rejoiced in the magic of their treasured books.
Miallo State School joined the fun with flair. Competitions, character dress-ups, and book swaps brought reading magic alive. Miss Sonia's creative touch transformed the library, a wonderland woven by each class's contribution.
St Augustine’s
St Augustine's Primary burst with liveliness this week to honour the Feast Day of St. Augustine.
The celebrations kicked off with a special Mass dedicated to the school's patron saint. Afterward, students took part in activities that echoed the values upheld by St Augustine.
The highlight of the day was the much-anticipated Saints Colour Run. Students and guests were adorned with vibrant colours as they ran through an obstacle course.
Acting Principal, Katrina Miller, expressed her gratitude for the community's enthusiasm and participation, “St Augustine's Feast Day is a time for us to not only honour his legacy but also embrace the values he stood for. It's heartwarming to witness our community come together in such a spirited manner.”

Epic month at Miallo State School
Beyond the excitement of Book Week, Year 3/4 students embarked on a thrilling trip to CPAC to witness the captivating performance of ‘The Twits’, having studied this novel earlier in the year.
Miallo also hosted District Ball Games and a dynamic 2-day Band camp Instrumental Music teacher Jenny Guyatt.
Under 8s day favourite activities this year included digging for gold, rocket cup races and cupcake decorating. Face painting, an animal farm, and special guests like Habitat's creatures and Douglas Library added extra delight. Japanese origami was a big hit too!
Mossman State High School
The Mossman SHS Subject and Career Expo 2023 saw many of our students' parents through the doors, with many local businesses and external learning providers donating their time to discuss potential pathways.
Ex-student Jason Hansen, who talked to students about apprenticeships and reminded everyone that English and Maths ARE extremely important for tradies!
