Port Douglas Rugby Club will host one of the biggest rugby events that Port Douglas has witnessed when they host round 2 of the FNQ Rugby Finals this weekend.
For the first time in the club’s 24-year history, Port Douglas Rugby Club will host a finals round with 3 preliminary finals across all 3 grades to be played on Saturday at Raider Park.
“It is going to be a massive day for the club with 6 teams competing for the last spot in their respective Grand Finals.” Port Douglas Rugby Club President Travis Gooch told Newsport.

“We look forward to showcasing our great club and thank FNQ Rugby for giving us the opportunity to host finals in Port Douglas.”
The Port Douglas Reef Raiders, however, will have to watch from the sidelines after their season was ended by a devastating after the fulltime siren successful penalty from Wanderers in week 1 of the finals.
Trailing 12-9 at halftime, the Reef Raiders took the lead 16-15 with 15-minutes to go when captain Frankie O’Dea kicked a sideline conversion after winger Kane Gray scored a try in the corner.
With time up on the clock, Wanderers were awarded a penalty 35 metres out, right in front. Wanderers slotted the goal to snatch the win 16-15 and book themselves a trip to Port Douglas and a Preliminary Final showdown with Barron Trinity Bulls.
“Unfortunately, there could only be one winner on the day. The players should be proud of the effort they put in and the season they had, they fought right to the very end.”
“We welcome everyone down to Raider Park this Saturday to enjoy a great day, in what will be the last chance to see rugby in Port Douglas this year.”
This Saturday’s schedule at Raider Park:
1:30pm Reserve Grade
Barron Trinity Bulls vs JCU Mariners
3:30pm Women’s
Southside Crusaders vs Barron Trinity Bulls
5:00pm A-Grade
Barron Trinity Bulls vs Cairns Wanderers
