JP by day, art enthusiast by night.

Sue Jones, a dedicated local volunteer, shows that retirement isn't just about leisurely activities. While there's nothing wrong with relaxation, Ms Jones prefers to actively contribute to her community, going above and beyond to make a difference.

Not one to sit still, Ms Jones immerses herself in community engagement as a volunteer JP (Justice of the Peace) in the Douglas Shire. Additionally, she has served on the committee of the Douglas Arts Gallery in Mossman for over a decade.

Since July 1987, Ms Jones has taken on a vital role in the Douglas Shire as a Justice of the Peace (JP), using her expertise to sign documents that require a qualified witness.

She finds joy in serving her community, relishing the opportunity to meet new people
while keeping her mind active and informed.

Unleashing her artistic side

On top of her duties as a JP, Ms Jones has been on the committee of the Douglas Arts Gallery in Mossman for more than 10 years.

“I have always been interested in art, and enrolled for some courses, which inspired me to become involved to help out,” she said.

“I enjoy being involved in all the aspects of art that DAB provides and of the friendships, support and sharing of ideas.

“It is a wonderful community program and we encourage anyone to participate in what we have to offer.”

Healthy ageing

When asked about her secrets in maintaining health and energy as she grows older, she
emphasised her active engagement in a range of physical activities, including Tai Chi, walking, swimming, and golf.

"I find immense joy in sketching, painting, and creating mosaics. Moreover, spending quality time with my beloved family, actively supporting and engaging in their lives, brings me great happiness.

“I also find purpose in visiting and accompanying elderly friends, providing them with companionship and care.”

MEANTIME IN OTHER SENIOR NEWS…

Knitting fun at Kubirri Aged Care

Residents at Kubirri Aged Care Centre have come together to form the ultimate knitting club for both seasoned pros and fresh beginners.

In late March, the club held its inaugural knitting meeting, and now, the fruits of their labour have blossomed into a stunning masterpiece - a magnificent blanket.

What began as a playful pursuit of knitting squares soon transformed into a grand vision. The club decided to unite their squares, stitching them together with a collective passion that birthed an extraordinary blanket.
