The NQ Homes Douglas Muddies Cricket team has ramped up their training sessions for the last two weeks to prepare for the Cairns Far North third grade finals this Saturday.
The local lads will play against Mulgrave Kerala at the Mudpit with a grand final berth up for grabs.
The Muddies finished as minor premiers after winning 13 from 17 games, clear of the second place by 2 games (points).
According to secretary of the club, Doug Barnes, the team is confident that they can continue the good form that they have been displaying all season into the finals campaign.
“It’s been a great season for the team with Daniel Harris (249 runs) and Adrian Bannerman (29 wickets) leading the way with bat and ball respectively,” he said.
“The team spirit is strong and after losing the grand final last year, everyone is keen to improve individually and as a team to finish the year on a high.
“Kerala are a big hitting team and the Muddies will have to be at their best on the field to make sure that the visitors don’t post a big score.
“Captain Ethan McCullough has a good mix of youth and experience and is confident that his team has what it takes to bring some more silverware to the Douglas Shire.”
The game kicks off at 12.30pm this Saturday 18 March at the Mudpit (Port Douglas Sporting Complex).
