Latisha Cali, Legal Practitioner Director and Maree Mazur, Legal Practitioner Director, with staff at Marino Lawyers, celebrate the firm’s 35th anniversary

The family’s lawyer who is there with you every step of the way. That is the motto of well-renowned and integral law firm Marino Lawyers, which highlights 35 years of serving the Far North region.

Marino Lawyers was established in Cairns in 1988 by Charlie Marino and Peter Smith as 'Marino and Smith Solicitors'.

For more than three decades, Mr Marino and the team have built a strong rapport with many families of the Far North.

Mr Marino is highly regarded, trusted and is frequently called upon to advise on business matters and generational succession planning issues.

In 2021 he passed the firm’s batten onto two talented women, Maree Mazur and Latisha Cali who were associates of the firm, working alongside Charlie from 2014 and 2017.

Ms Mazur and Ms Cali are proud to have taken over ownership and to continue helping to assist the next generation of local residents and are thankful for the community's continued support.

“Being local ourselves, it has always been great to be part of an established firm servicing so many local clients,” Ms Mazur said. “It is a privilege to continue on the motto, now servicing the next local generations, who have continued on with us.”

Ms Cali added that they are glad that Mr Marino has stayed on board with the firm as their consultant with an incredible 38 years of experience to add to our own.

REPORT

35 years of local service

Mr Marino said it has been a highlight to see the two new directors take the firm on into its 35th year.

“It's quite exciting to see what they're doing with the management of the firm, and in keeping the ownership local, bringing their talents to the firm both in the legal and management arena.

"They've got their own personal talents that they're bringing to the legal landscape, and not only Cairns but the greater region from Port Douglas down to Innisfail, which is where the firm now provides legal services to."

Mr Marino shared that there have been challenging times along the way, but there's always been satisfaction found in assisting clients to reach their legal goals.

"Also, seeing the firm's growth from two lawyers and one assistant to what we are today has been rewarding.
“The region has grown during the 35 years, and the four office locations allow clients of the Far North greater access to legal services.”
