Young environmentally aware students to swap clothes today to do their bit for the planet
CLOTHES SWAP
A group of environmentally aware primary school children from Port Douglas State School will do their bit to help the planet when they hold a clothes swap party today.
Year three and four students from Ms KW’s class recently concluded that too many used clothes around the world were being chucked away, when instead re-using or finding new owners would be a more practical way to help the environment.
With less items being discarded the class felt this is a better solution as rotting clothes don’t typically disintegrate back into the earth too efficiently.
As such all of the clothes donated by the school’s community for the clothes swap party will be repurposed and find new homes which is a great result for everybody.
“Our class felt that too many clothes end up at landfill and are destroying the earth,” teacher Kelda Wray told Newsport.
“As part of their investigation, research and problem solving we decided throwing a clothes swap party is one way to help improve the problem.
“All of the children have been very passionate about the project.”
