Applications for the Douglas Shire Council’s Chief Executive Officer close on Sunday November 21 and Mayor Michael Kerr is hoping to secure the position before Christmas.

The job, which is a three-year contract and offers a salary around $200k, plus Super, a Car, Relocation Assistance and five weeks’ leave, became vacant in August when Mark Stoermer tendered his resignation.

It’s been revealed that a strong pool of applicants have been received and once the Councillors have narrowed it down to five, they will conduct interviews and make their choice.

“My aim is to lock in the CEO before Christmas which will give us a head start when we move into the new year,” said Kerr.

In describing the position, Council said it is seeking to appoint an experienced, transformational, community focused leader to drive the organisation forward on a trajectory of enhanced operational performance to ultimately deliver superior outcomes and services to the community

“Reporting to and working closely with a community-focused Council, you will truly embed yourself within the Douglas community.

“Developing an action orientated approach for Council, further building the economic drivers that will contribute to the region's prosperity and managing the resources of Council effectively and efficiently ensuring sustainable performance will be underpinned by a high level of service delivery and evidence of a positive and engaged workforce.

Strong leadership

“Renowned for your strong leadership you will have a warm and engaging personality and the wisdom to deal with people from all walks of life and abilities up to the highest levels of Council.”

It added: “Council plays an important role in capitalising on economic opportunities across the Shire and will support you to lead a vision which is strongly focused on community engagement and building a healthy, connected, inclusive and prosperous community.

“Council’s operating budget is approximately $45 million with a staff base of 211 and is led by the Mayor and four Councillors.”
