The newly rejuvenated Beach Shack Restaurant in Port Douglas has thrown open its doors and is ready to welcome everyone in.

New owner and local woman, Natalie Towers, purchased the Barrier Street restaurant earlier this year and said it’s been four long months of renovations, but she is thrilled with the outcome.

“It's been a long time coming and I'm so proud of it, it's so much better than I could ever have expected, the space has come up so well,” she said.

“It is exciting, I’ve done the best I can to pay homage to the space.”

It’s a new era for the Shack; gone is the sand floor, replaced with a beachy chic style and relaxed tropical vibe.

“Underneath the sand was this amazing concrete, so I've kept that. It's still earthy, it's still got the Shack vibe, it always had good bones, but now everything is fresh, it’s been touched up and painted.

“We have created a more open breezy space, with more atmosphere and tropical gardens.

“We are going for an open relaxed vibe with a casual tropical flair.

“The team from Papillon Landscapes really helped. They came up with some really great designs and helped put it all together.”

The restaurant will open from Thursday to Monday, starting with a 4:00pm unwind hour featuring a drink and taco special.

“Come in and have a Margareta and unwind,” said Ms Towers.

The full menu will kick off from 5:00pm boasting a modern fusion mix of foods and styles from Thai and Mediterranean cuisines, to the traditional favourites like fish and chips and of course the Shack's popular pizzas.

“We're starting out with a simple menu with room to grow as we grow,” Ms Towers said.

“We have two beautiful Thai chefs, so we're really going to incorporate a lot of Thai style cooking as well.”

For the time being, takeaway pizzas will not be back on the menu just yet, however, Ms Towers said she hopes to incorporate it as soon as she can, as her team grows.

“We are very much aware that that was a popular thing to do, and we are working on it.

“It is the beginning of another era for the Beach Shack, and we are going to grow as we go.

“So please come in and check us out and eat, drink and unwind,” Ms Towers said.
