Power is back on in Port Douglas, with 56 customers now being supplied through generation until network repairs are completed.

UPDATE 1:30pm:

Ergon crews have restored power to the majority of customers affected by this morning’s power outage, which was caused by a fault on a ring main unit.

Just 56 Ergon customers in Mowbray Street and the Esplanade in Port Douglas are still without power while work continues to be carried out.

An Ergon spokesperson said those affected customers in the immediate vicinity of this network damage will be supplied through a mobile generation unit while emergency repairs are underway.

“The generator has been deployed from Cairns and crews will be working to bring it online as soon as practically possible,” the spokesperson said.

“We really appreciate everyone’s patience, especially on a hot day like this.”

Much of Port Douglas and Craiglie have been left in the dark this morning after a power outage.

An Ergon Energy spokesperson said currently more than 1400 customers in Port Douglas and Craiglie have been affected after the power went out at around 9:40am.

“Ergon Energy crews are patrolling the network to find the cause of the outage,” the spokesperson said.

“When they have pinpointed the fault and assessed any damage, we will be able to provide an estimated restoration timeframe.”
