SPORTS DIGEST: Sharks bring League back to Shire

Rugby league is back in the shire.
The Mossman Port Douglas Sharks hosted a season-opening trial carnival on Saturday against Ivanhoe Knights and Thursday Island Roosters.
The teams played a trio of back-to-back shortened games from 4.30pm at Coronation Park in Mossman, with a healthy crowd lining the ground in cars and seated in the grandstand and upstairs bar.
The Sharks outfit started slowly in the first game against the Knights, going down 10-0 in the early stages of the match.

Game 2: Ivanhoe Knights 22, Thursday Island Roosters 6
Game 3: Mossman Sharks 10, Thursday Island Roosters 10
Port Douglas Muddies Cricket
All three games were abandoned last weekend due to rain.
With two rounds left before finals, the top-placed 2nd Grade team is away to seventh-placed Mulgrave this Sunday, March 2.
The 3rd Grade side, currently sitting second, is also away to bottom-placed Mulgrave on Saturday, March 1.
The 4th Grade team is playing Barron River at home on Sunday, March 2, from 12.30pm. Barron River is currently sitting third on the ladder, while the Muddies are sitting bottom but are still capable of rising up the ladder with wins in their last two games.

Men's Jackpot Bowls results Saturday, February 22: Jock Constantine & David White W 3; Neil Brooks, Wayne Parks & Eric Smith W 6, John Arnold & Ranald Edwards W 7; winners on the day John Hocking, David Blain and Col Widdows W 14. District Championship Pairs winners J. Phillips & R. Hubbard. Singles winner Mick De Vries.
Finals were played at West Cairns on February 22.
Mossman Ladies had 9 members enjoying bowls on February 20.
Thursday evening bowls and BBQ had 16 taking part, the next Thursday evening bowls and BBQ is March 6.
