Richmond great, Trent Cotchin, last year made a guest appearance for the Port Douglas Crocs.

The Port Douglas Crocs have an action-packed start to this year’s AFLQ Cairns season, with a Second Round Good Friday home match against North Cairns Tigers and a Third Round Anzac Day twilight home fixture against Centrals Bulldogs.

The season begins on Saturday, April 12, with the Crocs away at Cairns City for that game.

The Good Friday fixture on Friday, April 18, will start out with the Crocs women at 10.30am, followed by the reserves game at 12pm and the seniors match at 2pm.

On Anzac Day, the women’s game starts at 12.30pm, followed by the development squad match at 2pm and the seniors at 4pm.

The senior team has recruited well in the off season, with a host of new players coming on board.

Senior coach Nick Salter said while the Crocs would like to have a few more numbers on the track, there are some new recruits soon to join the squad which will boost training.

"People are pretty relaxed about pre-season up here,'' he said.

"I do think it will be a bit of a slow start to the year but by round three we should be hitting our straps as we get a bit more time together as a unit and get working together.''

Murphy Short is a 25-year-old midfielder from Port Adelaide Magpies in South Australia’s top-tier state league, the SANFL, while Tim McIntyre is a 35-year-old forward also from a SANFL club, Sturt.

Jai Nanscawen, 24, is a mid/forward who has played for VFL team Box Hill Hawks, while there are two 23-year-olds from Somerville on Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula - Ryan McNamara and Jay Holden.

The club has also re-signed Danny Davidson, PJ Megee, Brodie Francis, Josh Lea, Jacob Zboril, Ben McPhee and Zayne Moore.

Meanwhile, the Port Douglas Reef Raiders rugby union team season will start on Saturday, March 22, with a 6.15pm match against Northern Beaches at West Barlow Park in Paramatta Park.
