When Rosetta, a resident at Kubirri Aged Care Centre, finished knitting her latest masterpiece, a stunning scarf, she wasn’t just making a cosy accessory. The scarf reflects her lifelong love of creating.

Long before her days at Kubirri, Rosetta's passion for creating began to bloom in her youth. Growing up in Bamboo Creek, she honed her skills under the guidance of a talented Italian dressmaker who lived just around the corner.

“Mum and Dad sort of had to squeeze the budget,” Rosetta recalled. “But when I left school, I was lucky enough to learn sewing from an Italian lady who lived just around the corner.

“For three or four months, I’d go to her place every morning and come back at night. I didn’t do bad at all with sewing.”

Her love for dressmaking continued throughout her life. “As a farmer’s wife, I used to sew a lot,” she said.. “That’s what I did at home all my life; dressmaking.”

Among her many creations, Rosetta fondly remembers making clothes for her children.

“Some of my favourite things were the clothes I made for them,” she said.

Rosetta’s creative flair extends beyond fabric. Recently, she transformed recycled cups into delicate flowers for the Centre, with Rosetta noting, “they looked so dainty on the table.”

When asked what her next creation will be, Rosetta said, “another scarf!” Needless to say, the staff and residents of Kubirri are eager to see Rosetta’s next creation.
