BREAKING NEWS: Alerts for flooding on Captain Cook and Kennedy Highways
Road alerts have been issued by the State Government Transport Department for several roads into Douglas Shire including the Captain Cook Highway and in the Kuranda region.
The Captain Cook Highway remains open at this stage, but the Transport and Main Roads Department (TMR) issued a warning at about 8am this warning for drivers in all lanes in the Oak Beach and Palm Cove areas to use “caution” and expect delays.
In the Kuranda region, motorists are being warned to take care on the Kennedy Highway crossing the Barron River Bridge, with lanes reduced in both directions.
In the Macalister Range area, Kennedy Highway lanes may be closed towards the top of range, with delays expected.
“Proceed with caution,” the alert states.
There has also been a landslide on Lake Morris Road in the Kanimbla and Mooroobool region, with the road closed to all traffic.
Motorists are being told to avoid the area.
In Dimbulah, the Burke Developmental Road at Eureka Creek is also closed to all traffic due to flood waters.
