A man has been arrested on the Captain Cook Highway at Yorkeys Knob after a report to police of him carrying a gun, which turned out to be a gel blaster.
The man was charged last night with “going armed to cause fear” and refused bail until his appearance in the Cairns Magistrates Court today (April 22).
Police were called to Varley Street in Yorkeys Knob at about 8.30pm on Monday, April 21, following reports of a man with a gun.
The man allegedly left the area in a car before residents called police with a description of the vehicle.
Not long later, Smithfield police pulled the car over.
The car and three people inside were searched, with officers reporting they found a gel blaster on the front passenger side.
