Let there be light in Macrossan Street
Port Douglas

Walking along Macrossan Street at night has just become brighter with the completion of stage two of the Port Douglas Council’s “decorative lighting project”.
Contractors have worked across the past week to install fairy lights throughout the trees running east from Grant Street.
The lights have since been connected to the power grid and are now illuminating Port Douglas further.
This stage of the project has seen up to 16 additional trees decorated with lights.
The initiative aims to boost the night-time economy along Macrossan Street and help retailers that operate after dark.
Pedestrians and drivers faced minor delays as works were undertaken throughout the week. FNQ Traffic Control were onsite to assist with traffic management when lanes had to be closed.
This additional lighting comes six years after the first nine trees were illuminated along the west side of Macrossan Street in 2019.
