Arrests after stolen car used during series of crimes
Police News

A 23-year-old Mareeba man has been arrested for multiple traffic offences and unlawful-entering-of-homes offences after a car was stolen from a Cairns residence and taken on a long, dangerous drive through the western suburbs.
Sometime overnight on Saturday, April 19, and Sunday, April 20, a red Volkswagen Polo was allegedly stolen from a Mooroobool home by the Mareeba man and a 20-year-old White Rock man.
Police said the car was driven dangerously through the day on Sunday and was involved in a crash on Ramsey Drive west of the Cairns CBD at about 2pm.
Police used a tyre-deflation device before finding the red Polo dumped near a park in Mooroobool, with the driver and passenger allegedly running from the scene before being caught a short time later.
The 23-year-old Mareeba man was charged with 15 offences, with many relating to unlawfully entering a home, receiving tainted property, unlawfully using a motor vehicle, obstructing police and trespassing, while the other man was charged with 12 offences.
Both appeared in the Cairns Magistrates Court this week and were remanded in custody to appear again on Tuesday, May 6.
Police are appealing for drivers with dash camera footage of a red 2012 Volkswagen Polo hatchback with Queensland registration 305SMS between Saturday night and Sunday afternoon.
