Year 6 students at Port Douglas State School recently took on the challenge of persuading their parents to consider moving to their chosen Asian countries during the “Asia Day” expo.

As part of their HASS and English curriculum, the Year 6 students put together an impressive presentation that highlighted various Asian cultures. 

Although it was a tough task to convince their parents to leave the idyllic paradise of Port Douglas, the students excelled by showcasing traditional foods, engaging games, persuasive advertisements, and much more.

Wonga Beach State School

At Wonga Beach State School, Year 6 students recently had an exciting weeks filled with valuable experiences.

The highlight was the Year 6 Transition Camp, where students from surrounding schools gathered at the Tinaroo Environmental Education Centre to begin building friendships in preparation for their move to high school. 

During the camp, they engaged in a variety of activities including climbing rock walls, navigating high ropes courses, constructing rafts, canoeing, kayaking, and participating in team challenges. Over the course of the week, students formed meaningful connections that will be essential as they transition to high school in 2025.

Meanwhile, five students from Wonga Beach State School travelled to Cairns to take part in the annual All Abilities Day at Barlow Park. 

This wonderful event offers inclusive sporting activities for students of all abilities, providing them with opportunities to learn new sports and receive coaching from specialists across diverse disciplines.
