Students dance to success in exams
Bodies In Motion Dance
Students from Bodies in Motion Dance School sat nearly 200 dance exams collectively in Jazz, Tap, Ballet and Hip Hop over two weekends in August with four dance examiners travelling up to Mossman to examine students on their work.
The local dancers spent the first seven months of the year preparing for the exams and had the opportunity to celebrate all their hard work with a presentation ceremony.
“Just as students learn at school in their Maths and English class, BIM students are taught a set syllabus from a national curriculum and are then assessed on what they have learnt,’’ said Bodies in Motion Dance School principal Saskia Turner.
“This is a fantastic opportunity to see where students sit on a national level and to ensure our students are learning safe and current techniques that meet a national standard.
“Dance exams are great for so many reasons; the exam process not only teaches dancers etiquette, goal setting and independence but students tend to push themselves that little bit more when they know they have that particular goal to work towards, therefore their skill level and technique improves,” she said.
Bodies in Motion students received outstanding results, with 82 high achievement awards, where a mark of 90 per cent or higher was obtained.
With exams over for another year, the local dance school has now turned its focus to preparing for their End of Year Production “ORIGINS”, which will be held on Sunday, December 15 at the Cairns Performing Arts Centre. Tickets on sale soon.
