Photogallery: Students dive into a new academic chapter
BACK TO SCHOOL
Douglas Shire’s schools were alive with activity yesterday as students eagerly returned for the first day of the new school year. Newsport was there to capture the primary schoolers - from Preppies ready for their very first day to seasoned seniors embracing the familiar routines of another academic journey.
Despite facing challenges with the water supply cutoff in the Douglas Shire since Sunday evening, schools still opened their doors on Monday.
Douglas Barnes, Principal at Port Douglas State School mentioned that the school had enough bottled water and portable toilets to navigate through the day without significant disruptions.
Jacqueline Osborne, Principal at Daintree State School, said students are very excited to be back and they are keen to learn lots of new things this year.
“Some of our students couldn’t make it today due to flooding but those who could had a wonderful first day,” she added.
