The so called highway will be fit for purpose when the State and Federal Govt's bite the bullet and do this as was done in NSW to address the same issues. And yes it will cost $billions. And yes a lot of people won't like it. As many who will object vociferously to having no coast road access at all to Cairns etc etc... Essentially what the engineers are saying is the Capt Cook Hwy is realistically unsalvageable and it's time to get real.

Why do people make and accept the excuses given, for the unacceptable time it is taking to get our 2 main access roads (Kuranda and Cook Hwy) to highway condition. 'Everyone' should be outraged by this shameful neglect and disregard....12 months, 52 weeks, 365 days and counting since this further major deterioration occured...and both roads are still a wreck! How can ANYONE be accepting of this failure of responsibility to provide a road network that is well built, reliable and designed to accommodate the expected traffic, which is what we all pay for...dearly!

A great location would’ve been the park opposite the tin shed. (Between Tin Shed and public jetty) Plenty of parking, public toilets, great location and more protection from the south easterly winds. I suggested this when they asked for community input.

That’s where ‘the people’ voted to have a Splash Park… don’t think the majority thought about the trees back then. Best spot would have been Reynolds Park - open space, plenty of parking, no trees removed… but the people voted, so.

32 million would help solve homelessness for Queenslanders. It would also repair and upgrade the Mossman sugar mill. Maybe it could be spent on building affordable worker accommodation for the region... the tourism sector runs on itinerant workers and locals barely making their rent. There are far more important issues in this region than more research on how sugar cane grows.

Whilst this is good news for sugar industry R&D it does little to enable possible changes of direction for our local sugar industry. The way R&D is supported in agricultural industries is by a % levy placed on sales. I believe the price of sugar is good at the moment (ironically) therefore there would be more funds available.
