An exciting opportunity awaits local creatives as the renowned Port Shorts Film Festivals opens film submissions for its 2024 edition.
The annual event that showcases entrants from around the world is inviting talented directors and filmmakers of all levels to present their works for the October 19th screening and go in the running to win up to $15,000 in cash and prizes.
More than that, you’ll also have the opportunity for your short film to be viewed by over 1500 people including acclaimed Australian actors Stephen Curry and Rarriuway Hick as well as Wolf Creek director, Matt Hearn - all of which are proud ambassadors and judges of the festival.
“I love being a part of Port Shorts and it’s something I look forward to every year,” Mr Curry said. “Seeing the incredible array of talent that comes through is so inspiring and you can’t get a much better backdrop than this either”.
Dubbed the “coolest film festival in the tropics” one look at the elaborate outdoor cinema and it’s no wonder why. Held in the iconic Rex Smeal Park, there are few other places in the world where you can sit under the stars, surrounded by palm trees and watch an array of fresh, new films of all genres.
Filmmakers can enter into a number of categories depending on their skillset. The main category is the Open Filmmakers Award however, there is also a Local Filmmakers Award and Music Video Award. Young, budding creatives can enter the Junior Challenge and Young Filmmaker Award which will be shown at a separate event at the Clink Theatre on October 18th.
