Film goers encouraged to snap up Port Shorts film festival tickets
BUSINESS FEATURE
Just days out from one of the most anticipated events on the annual Douglas Shire calendar, locals are encouraged to avoid disappointment and secure tickets before they’re all snapped up.
The iconic Port Shorts film festival kicks off this Friday in Port Douglas with the sole purpose to showcase the best short films across Far North Queensland and the globe, over two brilliant nights, on a gigantic screen, under the stars at Rex Smeal Park in Port Douglas.
The coolest film festival in the heart of the tropics will provide filmmakers of all experience levels the opportunity to share in more than $15,000 in cash and prizes and the chance to mingle with some of Australia’s finest film makers.
Last year a hearty crowd of around 1000 people enjoyed a close look at the best forty short films from our backyard and around the world, with Glen Stasiuk claiming the $5000 major prize in the open film category with ‘Survivors of Wadjemup’.
Meantime popular event ambassadors Stephen Curry and producer Matt Hearn have each returned to form the legendary judging panel.
The man who endeared himself to Australian audiences for his starring role in “The Castle” all those years ago is excited to return to Douglas.
“I’m delighted to return to be a part of Port Shorts I love not just the quality of short films showcased at the festival but the beauty of the region and warmth of the local community," Mr Curry remarked to Newsport.
"Matt and I have been coming to Port for the Festival for years and absolutely love the place."
His counterpart was equally excited about his return to Douglas.
“Port Shorts is an iconic little festival that showcases short offerings put together by emerging filmmakers,” Mr Hearn said.
“It’s great to be back and I can’t wait to see what this year’s festival throws up.”
