Police were called to a Cairns home around 3am yesterday morning after a woman was allegedly seriously assaulted, including strangulation and being punched.

A man fled the residence prior to police arrival.

Police commenced their investigation and the woman received medical treatment for her injuries.

Investigating detectives later located the 31-year-old man before charging him with one count each of strangulation in a domestic relationship and assault occasioning bodily harm in a domestic relationship.

The man was due to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court today.

Meantime, Property Crime Squad officers yesterday charged two boys with a total of eight offences after a successful stolen vehicle intercept last night.

Police allege a red Mitsubishi was reported stolen on Wednesday January 25 at Trinity Beach after a home was broken into before car keys and other property were stolen.

Members of the Tactical Crime Squad successfully deployed a tyre deflation device and recovered the vehicle in Long Street, Mooroobool where the vehicle was towed by police for scientific examination.

The two boys were located and arrested by police at a Mooroobool home.

The 14-year-old boy was charged with one count each of enter dwelling and commit, receiving tainted property, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, unlicenced driving, enter dwelling with intent at night and attempted enter dwelling with intent at night.

The 16-year-old boy was charged with one count each of enter dwelling with intent at night and attempted enter dwelling with intent at night.

Police bail was refused, and both are scheduled to appear in the Cairns Childrens Court.
