It’s sports sign on week across the Douglas Shire, dust off your rackets or lace up your footy boots because training is back in session.

Douglas Netball Association

Learn new skills, have fun, and make new friends with Douglas Netball. The club will host their come and try day today, Tuesday February 14 for ages U8 to U16 at the Indoor Sports Centre in Mossman at 5pm. Mixed Men’s Mens and Women’s Netball Fast 5 will start off tonight at 6pm and continue every Tuesday until February 28. 

Port Douglas Crocs Juniors AFLC

Aspiring AFL champs have a chance to kick the footy at the Port Douglas Crocs Juniors come and try day this Sunday February 19. The light training session, which kicks off from 9am at the Port Douglas Sporting Complex, is the perfect chance for young guns to try AFL. Season training officially begins Wednesday February 15 at 4.30pm for U15s and U17s. Training for U8s through to U13s will start on February 27.

Mossman Sharks Junior Rugby League

The mighty Mossman Shark juniors are looking for players to join them for the 2023 footy season. Trainings run on Tuesday and Thursday at 5pm at Coronation Park. Come and Try rugby league this Thursday at 5pm. Ages range from U6s to U16s, all are welcome. Meet your coaches at sign on day is this Saturday February 18 starting at 9am.

Douglas United Football Club

The Douglas Dragons are seeking enthusiastic football players to join their ever growing club. ‘Come and Try’ days will run for the rest of February from 4.30pm to 6pm at Cassowary Park in Mossman for Juniors every Tuesday and Thursday. Men’s and Women’s training sessions are held at the Port Douglas Sporting Complex from 6pm every Monday and Wednesday. New players of all abilities are welcome.

Douglas Athletics

Running, triple jump and shot put are just some of the fun events on offer at the Douglas Athletics Club. The club’s come and try day is on Thursday March 2 at the Mossman Highschool Oval, if you’re keen to test out your inner athlete. The session is open to all.

Port Douglas Surf Life Saving Club

Surf Life Saving is both challenging and rewarding in and out of the water. If this sounds more like your thing contact the Port Douglas Surf Life Saving Club. The club is set to host a sign on day on March 5 from 10am to 2pm.

Mossman Squash and Tennis Club

If you’re inspired by the Australian Open, head down to the Mossman tennis courts for a game. The club is open to all ages and abilities. Social nights run on Tuesday and Wednesday from 6.30pm and junior matches are held Fridays at 4pm.

Douglas Heat Basketball Club

Try out your jump shot with the Douglas Heat Basketball Club at Endeavour Street. The Heat run programs catering to all ages, from their Aussie Hoops (5-11 years) to Juniors (12-17 years) and senior comps. Aussie Hoops train every Wednesday from 3.30pm, mixed U15s Mondays from 4.30, Men’s Tuesday at 6pm and Ladies Monday from 6.30pm.
