Warning: Crocodile sighting at Spring Creek waterhole

The popular Spring Creek waterhole may be off limits for now after a what's believed to be a 'saltie' measuring 1-1.5 metres was sighted.

And in this Facebook image, the crocodile can be clearly seen in the foreground.

Hidden away in the secluded Mowbray Valley, Spring Creek Falls is a popular swimming spot among the locals.

And with the major objective of warning potential swimmers at the location, a Facebook posting advises people to make informed choices adding this is not a free-for-all pro/anti croc forum.

In additional chatter on the Facebook page, it was pointed out “there would be no more swimming for Frankie”; and another said he would hate to see a kid tagged by a croc this size.

A spokesman for Douglas Shire Council, meanwhile, confirmed there had been a crocodile sighting.

“Council is aware of a recent crocodile sighting at Spring Creek and would like to remind the community to always be croc-wise.

“The State Government records and investigates all crocodile reports made by the public and will take appropriate action based on the potential safety risk posed.

“If you see a crocodile in Queensland report it to the Department of Environment and Science via:

QWildlife app for iOS or Android OR report a sighting online OR call 1300 130 372 (Option 1)”, they said in a statement.
