Port Douglas State School student Abigail Muller has collected a swag of awards and was crowned School Dux during the school’s 2021 end of the year Awards Evening.
The 12 year old elementary school student just finished grade 6 at Port Douglas State School, where she was one of the School Captains this year.
At the school’s annual end of the year Awards Evening she received awards for sporting achievements, academic and leadership.
Abigail said she was very happy when she got called out for the Health and Physical Education Award.
According to the Port Douglas State School, the HPE award is awarded to students who have demonstrated dedication, effort, grit and determination to improve their physical skills and to perform at the best of their abilities.
Abigail said that sports are her favourite activity in school. “I like to move around and participate in group activities. I didn’t miss a single activity throughout the year.”
“I never expected to receive more than one award, so when I heard my name called out for the Leadership Award I was shocked and thrilled.”
The Port Douglas State School presents this award to a student who has shown incredible dedication, care and compassion for students, staff and all members of their community.
“It is only awarded to one student in the whole school, so for me it is a really huge privilege to accept this award”, Abigail said.
When she was announced Dux of the School - awarded to just one student in the whole school for achieving high results in all areas of learning - she was even more surprised.
“I wasn’t even aware that there was a Dux of the School Award. To be the Dux is a big achievement. It was a surprise for me to receive this because I know there are some really smart kids in my grade.”
Abigail said that she likes to get good results in everything she does. “I enjoy learning new things and I want to do my best.
“I definitely try my hardest to take in everything my teacher says and ask all the questions I have. I think my hard work over the years has definitely paid off.
“I like to think that I am a reliable person. I like helping people, from assisting with the organisation of the school dance to helping other students with their homework.”
Outside of school Abigail participates in Clink Theatre Productions and she is heavily involved in Bodies in Motion Dancing.
“In the future I think I would like to be a paramedic. But the thing in my life I enjoy the most at the moment is dancing.
“I hope I can figure out how I can incorporate a dance career into a paramedic career.”
