Daintree Coast residents have created a petition they hope will prove the impetus or catalyst for Douglas Shire Council to extend the opening hours on Noah Range until midnight.

As it stands the range, which continues to be worked on following a massive landslide caused by Jasper and heavy rain is open to all travellers daily from 6am-7.30pm.

While very grateful of the current operating hours locals have told Newsport they still face challenges directly related to the ongoing reduced hours at Noah Range.

Because of the reduced hours some parents of school children can’t attend school events in Mossman and then make it back past Noah range by the cut off time and it's a similar case for others who have recently been unable to attend appointments in Cairns for the same reasons mentioned above.

Newsport understands that in recent days Daintree Coast locals have pushed their case hard with officials from the Queensland Reconstruction Authority who indeed revealed to them there are funds readily available to assist with this matter.

This may include an allocation of funds that could be spent to provide permanent, rented floodlights at Noah Range, and a road worker manning the traffic lights in the area, which would build a case for the range to open past the normal 7.30pm shut-off and increased to a lobbied, daily closing time of midnight.
